Senior Master
Sgt. Ron May goes over a checklist during an aerial refueling
mission with the Topeka's 190th Air Refueling Wing. His primary
job as a boom operator, or "boomer", is to fly and guide a 35
-foot long refueling tube into a receiver aircraft to conduct
aerial refueling, delivering up to 1,000 gallons per minute to
other aircraft. He also assists the pilot, co-pilot, and navigator
with various duties surrounding a refueling mission.
